Teradata Columnar – Why, How, and When to Use Vertical Partitions

Teradata Columnar, available with Teradata 14, is a new physical database design choice which can provide extreme performance and dramatic compression.

This session will explain what columnar is and how Teradata Columnar works to store and compress data and the small amount of effort required to implement columnar. You will also learn the design considerations to understand and typical situations where columnar will benefit – or negatively impact – your system performance and take a look at the new EXPLAIN text and what it means.
